Northcote Theatre

Adaptive Reuse
The Northcote Theatre is one of the earliest surviving examples of cinemas built in Victoria that remains largely intact. Built by the Northcote Picture Theatre Company, the historically and culturally rich building was originally a popular picture house and subsequently used as a function centre.    Guided by a sensitive appraisal of the existing heritage fabric, a series of new elements complement the existing structure and provide the necessary upgrades and services to operate as a world-class contemporary live music and entertainment venue. Consistent with the notion of contemporary creative hubs, the Northcote Theatre is destined to become a mixed-use destination for the arts and hospitality.  Contributing to the reactivation of High Street and to the Darebin’s art and hospitality scene. The relaunch of the historic establishment is to return the Northcote Theatre to its former glory as an important cultural space for the community. Project Status: Heritage Application
